Founded in 2000 by Lisa Wagner, Walks ‘N’ Wags Pet First Aid originally offered dog walking and cat sitting services.
Lisa developed an interest in Pet First Aid when she started her Pet Care company and in 2003 she became a Pet First Aid Instructor. She has since personally taught the Pet First Aid program to hundreds of dedicated pet lovers. In 2007 Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid took over the management of highly recognized Oakland Educational Services’ Pet First Aid Program.
Lisa and her pet care staff had numerous occasions to utilize the skills taught in the Walks ‘N’ Wags Pet First Aid course. They have been the first to attend to several injuries, including: a severed tendon, a chest impalement, severe stomach laceration, a broken leg, fractured jaw, crushed pelvis, and have unfortunately had to perform CPR. The pet care staff also found warning signs for numerous illnesses and conditions in their clients’ pets such as kidney disease, diabetes, and urinary tract infections. This knowledge was gained from the awareness of preventative and recognition measures learned in the course.
There are now Instructors teaching Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid program in many different Canadian Cities with expansion into the United States and beyond. Feeling confident in one’s ability to assist an injured animal is an empowering experience and one that Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid is proud to share across North America and now other parts of the world.
Lisa lives in Vancouver, BC with her husband, two children, dogs Tux and Floyd and cats Kitty & Kermit. Her education includes a BA in Psychology and education in Human Resources. She entered the pet community in 2000 when Lisa opened a Commercial Dog Walking and Pet Sitting company.
Ms. Wagner has since obtained Certifications in Human and Pet First Aid, Dog training, and Technical Animal Rescue. Lisa is passionate about worldwide animal health and safety, which inspired her to leave pet care in 2010 to focus solely on Walks N Wags Pet First Aid.
MORE INFOWalks N Wags Pet First Aid has recently extensively updated and expanded the course with the assistance of a National team of Veterinarians and other Pet health professionals. Lisa,
I decided to take Walks ‘N’ Wags Pet First Aid Course because I was starting a dog walking business but now I would recommend it to anyone that has a pet at home. There was a lot of useful and life-saving information for your pets in the Walks ‘N’ Wags course. The instructor (Mike) was really thorough and was able to break down the information well. He also encouraged us to ask questions throughout. I feel much more confident now running a dog walking and pet sitting business, knowing that I would be able to react properly in an emergency situation

Just wanted to let you know how thankful I am that I was able to take your pet first aid course. Not even half an hour ago, my oldest dog Cocoa was choking on a piece of food to the point where she passed out. I was honestly thinking that this might be the end. But because of how well you taught all the course information I knew exactly what to do and we were able to act quickly and save her life. So thank you for being such an amazing teacher and giving me the skills and knowledge I needed to keep one of our valued family members around for a little longer.
Thank you again! Bow Dog Canine Specialists

I would like to thank you and your staff for developing such a useful course. It teaches you how to handle and solve difficult situations from imbedded objects to a minor cut. It’s the perfect course for animal lovers and those who work in the pet industry. I learned new things, met new people and dogs that were all kind-hearted and animal lovers like myself! I would also like to thank Ellis van Schuur for being a wonderful teacher. Hopefully I won’t have to use these skills much but I know what to do when necessary.

It feels like every few weeks something happens to a pet or a pet friend of ours that makes me completely grateful to have taken this course. Today, our Boston Terrier got stung in the chin by a bee and thanks to you, I knew exactly how to handle the situation. I honestly can’t thank you enough for all the times the information you taught me has come in handy. In situations where I normally would have been in a huge panic, I was able to leap into action safely and help my furry friends. I’ve flushed eyes, dressed wounds, and informed countless people on how to keep their pets happy and healthy. This course is worth my weight in gold!
